As an average citizen of
Barrie, I see what needs work, and I see what works.
I have a normal job and come home to raise and
support my family. I think the problem with politics
here and everywhere else, is that there is too many
politicians involved and not enough people. In my
campaign and hopefully through my term, I wish to
only represent the people of Barrie. I wish to hear
what it is you would like to see done in your city.
How should we use the new land in the south end to
it's fullest potential? Without taking away from
Innisfils small town charm or turning Barrie into a
residential community without the jobs to support
it? Maybe a south end dog park and sports field?
Should businesses feel welcome in this city in order
to attract more to Barrie? Maybe some temporary tax
breaks to new business? Maybe we should offer
incentives to attract large businesses here to
employ large amounts of area residents?
In the business that I'm in I hear a lot of stories
about domestic violence. This is horrible to me. I
think this is a huge issue and my staff and I wish
to do everything we can to assist the victims in
this area to help reach their feet once more.
Local organizations need the cities support to make
a difference. Will you help?
Having recently been without a drivers licence due
to a mix up at work, and needing to get around for a
couple weeks until it is valid again, I've come to
feel bad for some of the people who rely on our
transit system. I love this city, but wow, we really
could use some reforms in that area. Maybe some
direct routes during peak hours? That seems like a
good place to start..
I will be walking around the city, meeting you on
the streets, and in you businesses. I want to hear
your opinions, I want your feedback. Lets be honest,
I've never done this before, I want your help...
Together we can all make a difference...
This is what we're looking at right now for our
immediate goals and this is what we would like to try and
accomplish. I'm sure more will arise, and we will
take them as they come:
- We would like to
see a 1% tax break for one year to new business
moving into our city. Also we would be looking at
a possible 3% break for one year and possibly
something longer term for businesses that employs
500 or more residents on a full time basis. We
would like to attract clean, useful industry to
use some of the acquired land in the south end.
- As well as
industry and the inevitable residential
construction that will happen in the south end. We
would certainly enforce strongly the need for
green space and community gathering places. Sports
fields, a large safe dog park. The community would
be asked, and the replies would be taken into
strong consideration.
- Transit routes and
services would be scrutinised and re-vamped to
better accommodate a growing city's needs.
- Victims of
domestic violence and abuse need our help. Our
office would look into the organizations that deal
with victims of violence and help to make it easier for the
victims to get back on their feet and feel whole
once more.
There is much more I feel we could do together to
keep Barrie the place everyone wants to be. I
remember there was a saying once, All Roads Lead to
Barrie. Mine did, and now I wish to stay here, I
wish to stand here with the people, I wish to make a
difference in this city my family and friends call
home. With your support, anything is possible.
Thank You Barrie
